Lakeside Foods was recently honored by Second Harvest of Wisconsin for being named their
Wisconsin Food Donor of the Year. In a ceremony tied to National Hunger Awareness Day, and
held at Second Harvest's headquarters in Milwaukee, Lakeside President and CEO Doug Quick
was presented with a plaque and "Silver Apple" award.
In her comments in presenting the award, Second Harvest of Wisconsin
President Bonnie Bellehumeur said, "When our supply of canned food fell to
dangerously low levels this spring and we appealed to our food donors for help, Lakeside
was the first to step forward. We asked donors to consider giving a semi truckload of
goods, and Lakeside's response of an unprecedented nine truckloads of vegetables totally
blew us away. As is always the case when we ask Lakeside for help, they set the bar high
for our other donors to match."
In accepting the award, Doug Quick said, "It is truly a pleasure to
work with Bonnie Bellehumeur and her talented and compassionate staff at Second Harvest of
Wisconsin. By supporting their very effective program, Lakeside is able to accomplish its
mission of providing food to those in need. All of us at Lakeside firmly believe that
America has the most effective food production system in the history of the world and that
because of this, it is not acceptable for any Americans to go hungry."
The event featured a breakfast of donated goods for several hundred staff,
volunteers, donors, and food bank representatives who are served by Second Harvest.
Coverage of the ceremony was provided by Milwaukee and Southern Wisconsin media. |
