Milwaukee, WI December 23, 2005 --
Lakeside was recently honored by Second Harvest of Wisconsin with its 2005 Hunger Hope
Award. It was given in recognition of Lakeside's food donations throughout the past year. The
award was presented by Second Harvest's Board Chairman Edward Heiser, Jr. and President
Bonnie Bellehumeur at the organization's Annual Meeting at the Wyndham Hotel in Milwaukee.
Accepting for Lakeside was President and CEO Douglas Quick.
In his remarks, Mr. Heiser pointed out that Second Harvest experienced a serious
shortage of food through the fall months because of heavy demand from the gulf coast
hurricanes on top of significant need in Wisconsin. He commended Lakeside for its
unprecedented response of multiple semi-loads of canned vegetables, which assured the
success of their emergency appeal.
Ms. Bellehumeur added that this was the second consecutive year Lakeside had been
selected for Second Harvest's highest honor. She also noted that Lakeside was the only
food manufacturer to receive recognition for 2005. She said that Lakeside's donations not
only were important in terms of the food given, but also because they set the pace that
motivated other donors to come forward.
Honored with Lakeside were Jewel-Osco, TCF and US Banks, ProHealth Care, WDJT-TV and
WITI-TV, Robert W. Baird, and several area radio stations.
Second Harvest of Wisconsin is affiliated with America's Second Harvest, the nation's
largest food help organization. Second Harvest of Wisconsin provides food to pantries
throughout the state from its warehouses in Milwaukee and Omro. |
