Lakeside announces several initiatives to help victims of Hurricane Katrina

Manitowoc, WI  September 20, 2005 --

Lakeside Foods announced several initiatives they are undertaking to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. It provided a truckload of canned vegetables, joining a group of Manitowoc area companies, led by Koenig & Vits and the local Red Cross, to bring needed supplies to the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts. In addition, in conjunction with Topco, Associated Grocers and Safeway, Lakeside's retail customers who serve the Gulf Coast, Lakeside has sent eight truckloads of canned vegetables to this hard hit region. Finally, the US Department of Agriculture has asked Lakeside to gear up its canned meat and canned vegetable production in order to support the recovery effort.

"All of us here at Lakeside are grateful for the opportunity of helping out those who have lost so much due to Katrina," said Doug Quick, Lakeside's President and CEO. "It's great to see how people throughout the country and the world have rallied to provide assistance to those who have undergone this great ordeal."
