RE:  Russell Whitenack appointed Manager of Thermal Processing

Manitowoc, WI  October 20, 2003 --

Russell Whitenack was appointed Manager of Thermal Processing at Lakeside Foods' Corporate Office. In this capacity, he will be responsible for directing the thermal processing program throughout the company.

Prior to joining Lakeside, Russ was employed by Chiquita Processed Foods (formerly Friday Canning Company and Mammoth Springs Canning) in various quality assurance capacities, most recently as Corporate Technical Services Manager. Russ received degrees in Biology and Food Science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He is a recognized Thermal Processing Authority and served as a Better Process Control School instructor from 1993 through 1999. He is an active member of the Institute of Food Technologists, Institute for Thermal Processing Specialists, Midwest Food Processors Association Technical Committee, and National Food Processing Association Committees on Thermal Processing, Aseptic Processing, and New Processing and Packaging Techniques.

Russ and his wife, Susan, will be relocating to the Manitowoc area in the near future.
