Maintenance Mechanic A Plant - Manitowoc, WI
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Repair and maintain a variety of food processing equipment located within the plant. Assist in the training of Class C and B Plant Mechanics.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the efficient flow of product through the assigned area and the repair and maintenance of all machinery in the assigned area
- Be able to make necessary corrections when lab shows deficiencies in product quality or workmanship
- Train seasonal and/or full-time employees in the proper, safe, and efficient operation of the machinery to which they are assigned
- Supervise seasonal employees in their day-to-day duties
- Handle minor personnel problems and refer major problems to the Supervisor
- Must meet all minimum requirements of Plant Mechanic B. In addition, must have specific knowledge of an area of equipment, its operation, and preventative maintenance and repair. Must also be very proficient in several categories of job requirements and possess some knowledge of all others
- Work with Foreman/Operations Manager in problem areas to reduce downtime, product waste and increased efficiencies
- Must be able to fabricate sheet metal
- Must understand lubrication methods and application of products
- Must understand the proper usage and disposal of sanitation and process chemicals
- Ability to perform hydraulic system maintenance and trouble shooting
- Must properly use hand and power tools and understand machine shop practices
- Ability to repair and replace power transmission components
- Must have knowledge of thermal processing and closure evaluation (Critical Control Points)
- Must be able to pass Forklift Operator's exam
- Must be capable of obtaining a passing grade at Better Process Control School
- Must be able to read blueprints and schematics
- Ability to perform electrical maintenance, consisting of installation and trouble shooting
- Must have an understanding of electronics, programmable controllers, single phase and 3 phase
- Must demonstrate the willingness to adapt and apply new technology and methods
- Ability to operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration equipment
- Ability to operate and maintain HVAC systems
- Must be familiar with process instrumentation
- Ability to operate and maintain power plant
- Ability to weld various metals using Arc, MIG, TIG Procedures
- Must possess a complete set of tools for industrial maintenance
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner
- Assist in accident investigations
- May perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Adhere to all Lakeside Foods established policies and procedures
- Notify supervisor immediately if any unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions are discovered
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge:
A two year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral, or diagram form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing - must be able to stand entire shift
- Walking - Walks periodically to get parts and materials
- Sitting - Limited sitting required
- Lifting - Able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds; lift up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis during a repair
- Carrying - Must be able to carry up to 75 lbs. for 100 ft.
- Pulling - Able to pull items of 200 lbs. occasionally
- Climbing - Must occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
SAFETY:
- Follow all safety policies and procedures
- Report all injuries within 24 hours
- Report all unsafe conditions and unsafe acts to the supervisor immediately
- Take an active roll in the daily safety and participate in the plant safety committee
- Data to be tracked by supervisors and submitted to management
- Set positive example by wearing PPE and following all safety policies
- Complete the incident analysis form including the cause and possible preventions within 24 hours
- Enforce all safety policies and inform management of all employee safety discrepancies
- Safety training of all new seasonal and full time employees
- Data to be tracked by HR department and submitted to upper management
